Is AATAX really free?
Yes. Individual taxpayers can keep their records and send their quarterly updates and final declaration to HMRC through AATAX free of charge. There is no subscription and we never ask for card details.
What do I need to get started?
An email address, your National Insurance number, your postcode, and the Government Gateway user ID and password you use to sign in to HMRC online.
Do I need to understand tax to use it?
No. AATAX tells you what is due next and explains each step in plain English. Before anything is sent, you see the figures and confirm they are right.
What kinds of income can I include?
Each quarter, you send updates for self-employment and UK and overseas property income. At year end you can add PAYE employment income, UK bank interest and dividends, foreign income such as dividends, interest and pensions, pension contributions and Gift Aid. At year end you can also add capital gains, from selling property, shares, crypto or other assets, and partnership income from the 2026-27 tax year.
Is my data safe?
Your documents are stored encrypted and we connect to HMRC through its official Making Tax Digital service. You can disconnect AATAX from your HMRC account at any time.
